GFSC Ecuador Update

April 2016, Ecuador Earthquake, Malaysia Press

Dear Friends of GFSC,

In response to the devastating earthquakes in Ecuador, the City of Quito has asked GFSC to train several hundred first responders, facilitators and community leaders who are helping the affected communities and survivors.

As is our practice, GFSC is customizing our workshops to meet the needs of these responders and communities. The first and second segments of the training are scheduled to begin in early May and continue through June. Nine of our most experienced GFSC facilitator-trainers—from Colombia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Chile and the USA—are volunteering to be part of the training team along with local co-facilitators.

This is a fluid situation. Beyond these initial phases, there will likely be opportunities to provide additional training and mentoring.

We are very happy to receive and fulfill this request. We are grateful that the City of Quito and several local businesses are helping to cover costs for travel, lodging and materials for these initial phases.

Over the past year, GFSC volunteers have delivered training workshops in the Philippines, Nepal and Chile. And now we are mobilizing to assist in Ecuador. We are reaching out to you to help us offset some of the expenses of this long term effort.

Please consider making a contribution to GFSC at this time as we continue to help communities respond effectively to local crises.
